LBGT+ DIVERSITY STRATEGY CREATED FOR SIUE EXPANDING

EDWARDSVILLE, IL – The Serenity Plan Team, now called The Serenity Strategy Network, is taking its diversity strategy for LGBT+ individuals across state lines. The Serenity Plan is a nine-step, three-year plan created to increase resources for LGBT+ individuals at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. The Serenity Plan is now called The Serenity Strategy. The name change demonstrates the ability for student cells to alter the strategy’s steps and timeline, depending on stakeholder input and resources that may already available to students. It also enables The Serenity Strategy Network to expand to multiple educational institutions.

The Serenity Strategy Network recently established student cells at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Butler University, Blackburn College, Lindenwood University, St. Louis College of Pharmacy, and Webster University. In addition, the organization is working to establish student cells at nine other educational institutions. The Serenity Strategy Network includes the administrative arm of the organization as well as the individual groups of students, called student cells. Members of these student cells work to enact a customized diversity strategy for their educational institution.

The Serenity Strategy Network is also working on expanding into the workplace to provide similar resources to LGBT+ individuals in their professional lives. With that in mind, the organization adopted a mission statement to clarify its goals. The Serenity Strategy Network’s mission statement is:

"Fostering peace of mind for the LGBT+ community in higher education and the workplace."
